PD should be issued with cameras to take real photos of evidence or have a camera on their phone.

Taking a photo through binoculars could be constituted as 'Fail RP' unless you held your phone up to the binoculars to take a zoomed in photo.

Taking a photo for evidence with your binoculars, gives the PD an upper-hand or advantage since they can see things from miles away and make assumptions on identification and vehicles.

Example of binocular photo:

Same thing as having a high camera with an optic zoom. And quality on the binos at distance usually sucks. I’m all for getting us actual cameras. Would be great for crime scenes. But using the binos should be fail RP when no camera is able to be used.

Also, who invited @Michael Reddington ?

I would like to add that this kind of photo should not be 'Admissible Evidence' for the Department of Justice. I couldn't find a list of admissible evidence.
Using a photo from binoculars just gives power to one side and from absolutely miles away.

There’s nothing that prevents anyone from using binos... how is it “one sided”?

See my previous comments.

If binos are used as a camera and used as admissible evidence, yes that is one sided.

I understand that your argument is that binoculars can be used by anyone and that is true.
However, in this case, we do not have a camera on our phones and binoculars do not take photos. If this is used as admissible evidence by the police, used as an unrealistic game mechanic, it is one sided if it is allowed by the court.

(I was told in-character that binocular photos are accepted by the court and mainly provided by the PD.)

This is just my opinion. Every city has different ways of looking at things, but if a game mechanic completely obscures the use of the object, then it should be looked into.

Again, I’d love to have an actual camera in game. But until such a time, it is reasonable to use what we have instead. We allow bodycam footage to be used without the model of a bodycam being present on the player. We allow “photographic evidence” by simply taking screen shots in first person view, because it looks the best. Lots of times we will use /e camera and take photos that way, but then you gotta deal with your player being in the shot.

The current system is not “broken”. But it could be better. And that’s almost always the case anywhere you look.

IVe seen places where you can create a physical in game item when you take a photo and can give it to others or place it in evidence. I believe it was a DSLR camera as well as the camera on your phone. its really cool to be able to take a photo and pass it around. Not sure if it is a part of the GCPhone system or not but its awesome.

Binoculars with built in cameras are a real thing. Do the binoculars in game specify they have a camera? No, but it's RP, if we want to say we have photographic cameras and the courts accept it then just go with it. Or we would just as easily use the camera from the tech shop and zoom in all the same. On the flip side of that, if binocular cameras are fail rp, then what does that make selling drugs on a mountain in the middle of nowhere?

Fair call but I am not here to argue whether this will be seen as Fail RP.

Every city strives to do things better, so my suggestion for a working camera for PD or a camera on our phones is still a great suggestion.

really the only thing that could change is that when you /e camera it makes it possible to zoom and capture what you see within a photo viewfinder instead of third person and ability to zoom greater distance.

No we don't? Cops have to have a physical body cam on their person if they want to use the evidence in court. b8b0e622a717f7e932975dadfd54a258.png

That was announcement from a DA. Right now, bodycam are “encouraged” but not required. Last I heard, this was still be discussed amongst staff for a final verdict. The main reason is that we have only one vest that has a bodycam.
